April is Autism Awareness Month at HCS

Autism Awareness Month
Posted on 03/31/2017

April is Autism Awareness month.   The HCS community is committed to helping raise awareness of and knowledge about autism. HCS is going to kick-off the month on April 4th by asking everyone to wear blue.

In recognition of this special month, all of the students and staff at HCS will be receiving custom designed autism awareness “dog tags” to add to their Husky necklaces.  The Student Council made special banners that will be displayed throughout the school.  Grade-level appropriate lessons about Autism will be taught by classroom teachers; these lessons will help the students deepen their understanding of Autism.  Students will also participate in activities designed to help them understand how a person with autism might perceive day-to-day experiences.

Thank you to our HCS families that have supported this month by donating Light it Up Blue stickers and creating a bulletin board!

The district is joining forces to build a Region 10-United team for the Autism Walk at Rentschler Field on Sunday, June 4th.  Please use this link to join or sponsor the team: http://act.autismspeaks.org/goto/r10united
