HCS Celebrates Summer Reading!
On Wednesday, September 20, HCS classes gathered in the multi-purpose room to celebrate all the reading they had done over the summer. Once the students were settled, a group of teachers and administrators performed a Reader’s Theater play to bring the book, Bunny’s Book Club by Annie Silvestro, to life. Karen Czerwinski thrilled the students by leaping and hopping as the bunny who loved reading so much he sneaked into a library at night by crawling through the book return. Soon, he brought his curious animal friends with him to share his joy of reading. Megan Mazzei, Rebecca Kennedy, Caroline Luke, Steve Yantz, Jill Vannini, Bobby Pirotta, and Liz Genest also joined in performing this little drama. The students were very attentive and loved the teachers’ antics as they acted out the story.
When the play had finished, we played a Wheel of Fortune style game, where students shared a story about a reading activity they had done this summer. In exchange for their stories, students won a “Check Out an Extra Book from the Library” coupon. We wrapped up our assembly with a video of all the summer reading pictures parents had posted to our HCS Summer Reading Board. Spirits were high as we closed out Summer Reading Celebration.
